Dr. Wade McCoy is currently in private practice and the president of Gilbert Medical Center, LLC. He was raised in far Western Oklahoma in a rural community in Roger Mills County in the town of Reydon. He graduated Summa Cum Laude from Southwestern Oklahoma State University in 1988. With the encouragement of his biology professor, he pursued a career in medicine. He entered medical school in 1990 at the University of Oklahoma and graduated with distinction from that university in 1994 after being elected to Alpha Omega Alpha, the only recognized worldwide honor medical society in the world. AOA stands for the Greek letters characterizing the motto of that organization: “worthy to serve the suffering.”

Since graduation from the Waco Family Practice Residency Program in Waco Texas, Dr. McCoy has been a diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice. He takes seriously the charge to always care for those who suffer, often in their last days. He has been involved in caring for the elderly over the last ten years in private practice in the Oklahoma City area. He also is active with hospice organizations in caring for the dying in the Oklahoma City community.

While scratching my head with one hand, I realize my phone is in the other. I was going to tell my wife a story the other day about a man I met. I couldn’t remember his name. By the time I gave up on remembering his name, I forgot the story...

PhysicianDogmatic, Until it Gets Personal

There is nothing that can change our opinion and stance on issues like personal experience. I sometimes wish I had what appears to be passion to be really for or really against something, to get on my soapbox, on the bad wagon. However, I am plagued with “seeing both sides” on most issues...

PhysicianNot Afraid to Die
Monday, May 12, 2008
In the winter of 1919, my great uncle Roy McCoy developed a cough and fever. The story goes that the country doctor was called and came to his bedside. The doctor didn’t have anything to offer except the basic treatments of the day. Roy got sicker and the doctor was called again. When the doctor left, he told the family that Roy was likely going to die... Read More

PhysicianWhy Doctors are Arrogant
Wednesday, April 30, 2008

The doctor that delivered me (or should have delivered me if he had made it to the delivery)practiced medicine for over fifty years in a very small town. He was plain spoken, brutally honest, blunt, at times rude, but never accused of being arrogant...
